About WVMTA             

The West Virginia Music Teacher’s Association (WVMTA) was founded in 1966 in Morgantown, WV.  WVMTA is a 501(c)(3) educational association, with members comprising independent and collegiate music teachers of all instruments and voice, as well as collegiate student members who are teaching and/or interested in teaching professionally.

 

WVMTA consists of six districts and two collegiate chapters and is affiliated with the national governing body, Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).

Benefits of membership  

Networking:  MTNA is made up of nearly 24,000 independent and collegiate music teachers like you in all fifty states and the District of Columbia.  Active members are entitled to participate in all MTNA activities, vote and hold office.

 

As a member you will receive the American Music Teacher, bi-monthly magazine from MTNA, quarterly WVMTA state newsletter and an annual WVMTA Member -Directory. WVMTA directories and the quarterly newsletter are available online to members, and can be mailed upon request.

 

Professional Standards: MTNA has an extensive certification program for its members that set a standard of excellence and professionalism.  Contact the state certification chair for more information.

 

Professional Development: Career training and development can be found at the local, state and national levels in the form of workshops, clinics and master classes.  Grants are made possible by Teacher Training Funds and Matching Grants for local associations from the MTNA Foundation.

 

Student Activities: Members and their students can participate in local, state and national competitions, recitals, adjudications, master classes and workshops, while at the same time earning trophy points.

 

State & National Conferences: Each year there are State and National Conferences featuring group discussions, workshops, guest artists and student competitions.  Most local association also hold regular meetings.

 

Arts Advocacy: Through MTNA, there exists a National Advocacy for Music Education Partnership, Advocacy Training, and a Congressional Liaison.

 

Other Benefits: Group health and disability insurance, retirement planning, group liability insurance, and credit card programs are also available through MTNA. 

  

 

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

Membership in WVMTA is through the national organization, MTNA. Members are required to join at the national and state levels. Local association membership is optional.  Active membership is available to any individual professionally engaged in a music activity.  The membership year runs from July 1 through June 30.

 

Active Member Dues

  • $63.00 MTNA National membership dues  ($47.25 for age 70 and over) 
  • $30.00 Active WVMTA State membership dues
  • Local Association dues in some districts  

 

Collegiate Members

  • $12.00 MTNA National membership dues
  • $ 3.00 WVMTA State membership dues
